The first Model T emerged from Ford Motor Co.’s Piquette Avenue plant in Detroit on Sept. 27, 1908. The car proved to be so popular that Ford soon built a larger factory several miles away in Highland Park, MI, which opened in 1910. In April 1913, that plant implemented the world’s first moving assembly line for a large-scale manufacturing application – flywheel magneto production. A few months later, in January 1914, Ford engineers unveiled a chain-driven chassis assembly line that ushered in the era of mass-production in the auto industry.
