Detect Product Defects Easier, Faster and More Reliably
The new KEYENCE CV-5000 Vision System offers high-speed, reliable defect detection on a wide range of surfaces and materials. Reliable detection is now possible through transparent reflective packaging...an incredibly difficult application with conventional systems. Industry-first advancements and camera options include a 5 million-pixel (2432 x 2050), ultra-high-definition camera with a 16.3 image/sec transfer rate. Real-time shade correction, sophisticated multi-lamp lighting control and pattern search enable detection of subtle deformations on simple/complex shapes.

After the Smoke Clears
It's been said that by the time something is featured on the cover of a glossy news magazine like "Time" or "Newsweek," chances are its moment has already passed. I'm beginning to think much the same thing about the online and television business press with respect to the current economic crisis. These days the major headlines are all pretty much gloom and doom. Dig a little deeper, though, and you begin to see a much different picture.
I am reminded of the 1988 "Year of Fire" at Yellowstone National Park. At the time, many in the media, having only a limited understanding of how natural systems work, proclaimed that the park was dead. They questioned whether its natural beauty would ever return. In fact, even as much of the park continued to smolder, Mother Nature was already hard at work rebuilding.
It's the same thing with the U.S. economy.

Noncontact Gripper Handles Fragile Parts
This ultrasonic gripper works on the principle of near-field levitation, in which an ultrasonic generator creates a thin film of pressurized air between the gripper and the workpiece at the same time air is extracted through holes on the gripper face creating a vacuum. The gripper is therefore able to "hold" a workpiece without ever having to make any physical contact. For more information, visit Schunk Inc. at
