WATERFORD, MI--The Walter P. Chrysler Manufacturing Technology Academy has been selected as a winner of the 2001 Governor's Excellence in Practice Award.

The award is given annually to an educational institution that "exemplifies the highest standards in career preparation."

The academy is open to Oakland County high school students, as well as to adults and students at Oakland Community College. The academy prepares students for jobs in manufacturing technology or engineering as they proceed from high school to community college or to comparable university programs. Academics are integrated with hands-on experience. Area employers are involved in the academy as mentors and program advisors, as well as internship sponsors.
