BRISBANE, Australia-Siemens Transportation Systems (Munich, Germany) has closed a deal to supply 20 Class 3800 electric freight locomotives to the Queensland Rail company in Australia. The agreement, which includes a spare parts package, is worth approximately $120 million. Delivery is planned for 2008.
"This is the second major contract from Queensland Rail within 3 months," says Siemens Transportation Systems Vice President, Joern Sens, referring to an order his company received in December to upgrade 60 of Queensland Rail's existing locomotives at a cost of $185 million.
