One of the more interesting aspects of conducting joint tests for manufacturers is the question of sample size. As with much of engineering, this decision is influenced by factors with no direct bearing on what is technically the right answer.
For example, the cost of the parts that may be consumed in testing obviously has no impact on the sample size required to provide representative test results. But, it would be unrealistic not to believe it is a consideration.
