Toshiba Will Build 68 Electric Locomotives for the Taiwan Railways Administration
TOKYO—Toshiba Infrastructure Systems & Solutions Corporation (TISS) has won a $368 million contract to build 68 electric locomotives for the Taiwan Railways Administration (TRA). TISS will manufacture the electric locomotives, including spare parts, at its Fuchu Complex here, with delivery being successive and beginning in 2022.
The locomotives are capable of hauling both passenger and freight trains that will be operated by TRA, but will mainly be used for express passenger trains connecting between major cities in Taiwan. This is the first time that TRA will procure complete electric locomotives manufactured in Japan, and the department will introduce new electric locomotives for the first time since 1992,.
