GM to Build Electric Motors at Ontario Assembly Plant
ST. CATHARINES, ON—General Motors plans to build motors for electric vehicles at its assembly plant here. The move, subject to support agreements with the federal and provincial governments, is expected to support some 500 jobs at the facility.
The plant currently employs more than 1,100 people producing V-6 and V-8 engines as well as transmissions. After retooling, production of electric motors will replace some engine production, but the company expects to continue to produce V-8 engines at the plant for some time.
