SEOUL—General Motors Co. and Samsung SDI plan to invest more than $3 billion to build a new battery cell manufacturing plant in the United States that is targeted to begin operations in 2026.
FLINT, MI—General Motors Co. plans to invest $918 million in four U.S. manufacturing sites, including $854 million to prepare these facilities to produce the company’s sixth generation small-block V-8 engine and an additional $64 million in Rochester, NY, and Defiance, OH, for castings and components to support EV production. These investments will enable the company to strengthen its full-size truck and SUV business and support the company’s growing EV product portfolio.
TOLEDO, OH—General Motors is investing $760 million in its propulsion manufacturing operations here to prepare the facility for producing drive units that will be used in future Ultium-based battery electric trucks. Toledo-built drive units are to be used primarily for Chevrolet Silverado EV, GMC Sierra EV, and GMC HUMMER EVs.
BOWLING GREEN, KY—General Motors restarted operations at its assembly plant here on Dec. 20, nine days after a violent tornado swept through Kentucky and damaged the facility.
WARREN, MI—General Motors Co. plans to invest $70 million into its Tonawanda, NY, engine plant and more than $6 million in its Parma, OH, metal stamping plant. The investments are intended to support demand for GM’s Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra pickups.
LANSING, MI—General Motors will shut down its Delta Township plant for 11 weeks over the course of 2022 to get ready to build a new vehicle, the GMC Acadia SUV. GM is dedicating $100 million to the changes at the Delta plant, and by the new year workers will see those plans come to life.
TOLEDO, OH—General Motors will invest $75 million in its transmission assembly plant here. The investment will increase the plant’s capacity to build 10-speed automatic transmissions that are used in GM’s full-size trucks, including the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra. Work will begin immediately at the plant.
