DETROIT—GM is investing $450 million and adding 1,400 jobs to two Michigan operations as it revamps its Volt electric hybrid car.

FLINT, MI—GM’s truck assembly plant here shut down March 18 after an employee committed suicide there earlier.

LANSING, MI—GM will build a new $162 million stamping plant at its Lansing Grand River assembly plant. The facility is expected to create 65 new jobs.

FLINT, MI—GM has begun construction on a $600 million paint shop project at the Flint Assembly plant.

PARMA, OH—GM is set to invest $14 million in the installation of a progressive press at its stamping and fabrication center here. The press will be used for both die tryout and regular parts production.

MORAINE, OH—DMAX Ltd. will invest $60 million to redesign its diesel engines so they meet future emissions requirements. The investment retains approximately 500 jobs at the joint venture between General Motors and Isuzu.

DETROIT—General Motors sold 9.71 million cars and trucks worldwide last year, not enough to beat out Toyota for the global sales crown but good enough for second place.
