WEST MILWAUKEE, WI—GE Healthcare plans to invest $50 million in a new assembly plant here to make CT scanners and other products. The facility could eventually employ more than 1,200 people as part of a proposed plan to consolidate the company’s operations in Wisconsin.

LOUISVILLE, KY—GE Appliances, a Haier company, is investing $62 million to expand production at its Appliance Park manufacturing complex here. The investment is expected to create 260 new jobs as each of the three major assembly plants at the 750-acre complex ramp up to produce more washers, dryers, dishwashers and refrigerators.

FAIRFIELD, CT—Rotor stacking is a key process in the assembly of gas turbines, requiring extremely high levels of precision. If the rotor wheels are stacked incorrectly due to differences in surface temperature, they will need to be reassembled, incurring additional costs and delays. Tata Consultancy Services and General Electric have developed a new technology that will analyze the temperature at various points on metal turbine parts as they are assembled, allowing operators to know when the next operation can be performed.

GREENVILLE, SC—GE Power has opened a new $73 million Advanced Manufacturing Works here. The state-of-the-art facility will be used to drive innovation and apply new manufacturing technology to the production of turbines and other machines.

PROVIDENCE, RI—GE Aviation is teaming up with Textron to produce a new turboprop aircraft and engine for the general aviation market, part of an effort GE expects will generate more than $1 billion in annual sales of engines by 2020.

LOUISVILLE, KY—A huge fire engulfed a warehouse Friday at General Electric’s Appliance Park here. The cause of the fire, which burned for more than a day, is still being determined, but it occurred as storms and lightning hit the area.

WINFIELD, KS—GE will produce its new Passport 20 jet engine at the company’s assembly plant here. The engine will power business jets produced by Bombardier.

LAFAYETTE, IN—GE Aviation has started the initial hiring of employees for the $100 million jet engine assembly plant under construction here. The factory will employ more than 200 workers within five years.
