SMYRNA, TN—Nissan’s assembly plant here is the top-producing automotive manufacturing plant in the North American industry so far this year. The plant’s two assembly lines have produced more than 334,000 vehicles.
AGUASCALIENTES, Mexico—Daimler and Renault-Nissan Alliance have agreed to jointly build a new assembly plant here. The two companies will equally divide the $1.36 billion cost of building the facility, which is expected to employ 5,700 workers and be able to produce 300,000 vehicles annually.
TOKYO—Nissan has commenced testing of a new super-hydrophobic and oleophobic paint technology, the Ultra-Ever Dry, which would enable a car to automatically clean itself.
CANTON, MS—Nissan Motor Co. has settled an unfair labor practice charge with a pro-union worker at its assembly plant here. The charge focused on a dispute over when Willard “Chip” Wells, a UAW supporter, could hand out union literature at the facility.
SMYRNA, TN—A minor fire developed early Thursday morning in the body line at Nissan’s assembly plant here. Employees in the immediate area were briefly evacuated, and no injuries were reported.
CANTON, MS—Nissan will build a 1 million-square-foot campus for its suppliers just north of the its assembly plant here. The facility could create 800 to 1,000 jobs.
SMYRNA, TN—A maintenance technician has been killed in an accident at the body shop of Nissan’s assembly plant here. The technician, Michael Hooper, 43, had worked at the plant for 21 years.
