Josh Person is a staff engineer in the machine vision group of FANUC America’s General Industries and Automotive Segment. Person is responsible for supporting FANUC’s integrated robot vision, iRVision for 2D, 3D and inspection applications. Person joined FANUC in 1996 and has been focusing on FANUC’s vision products since 2003.
Josh Person has a Master of Science in Engineering Management and a Bachelor of Science in Automated Manufacturing.

Vision Guidance for Robotic Assembly
A truism of automated assembly is that a robot is only as good as the fixture holding the parts. A robot can return to the same positions time and again. But, if the location and orientation of the parts deviate from what the robot has been taught, it may not perform reliably. There are two ways around this problem. One is to increase the precision of the fixture—and accept a corresponding increase in cost and decrease in flexibility. The other is to give the robot a guiding hand with machine vision. In this presentation, you’ll learn how and when to implement vision guidance for robotic assembly.
