Proterra LLC plans to unveil a prototype bus, developed through a public-private partnership, at an event tentatively set for Feb. 6 at San Jose City Hall. The vehicle-with a lightweight body, lithium titanate battery packs and a solar roof array-could save approximately 11 million gallons or $45 million, in fuel annually for large-scale users. MORE

Caterpillar Inc. broke ground Wednesday on the company’s new manufacturing plant just east of San Antonio. Last month, Cat selected Seguin as the site for its new engine assembly, test and paint facilities. The construction-equipment manufacturer is consolidating operations from plants in Illinois and South Carolina to Seguin and in the process is creating more than 1,400 jobs. MORE
