According to ASSEMBLY’s annual Capital Equipment Spending Survey, data confirms that there is a growing optimism for manufacturing in the southern region. Some 53 percent of assemblers in the region will spend more on assembly technology in 2022 than they did in 2021. That compares with 43 percent for the nation as a whole, and it’s the largest percentage of any region.
Over the next 10 years manufacturers are committing billions of dollars to building infrastructure facilities in the resource rich southern United States. Every major automotive OEM, including Ford, GM, Nissan, Toyota, Volkswagen, BMW, Honda, Hyundai, Kia and Mercedes, now operate assembly plants within a 300-mile radius of Nashville. Likewise, dozens of manufacturers in the appliance, aerospace, electrical, electronics, battery, new energy and medical device sectors have also set up shop in the region
