Functional Assembly with EMAP: Pressing and Calibrating a Pressure Relief Valve

This video explains how Promess used an electric press and integrated sensing to assemble a pressure relief valve to its functional opening pressure rather than to a fixed dimension. Glenn Nosley outlines the original hydraulic process, the variability challenges, and the customer’s tighter pressure requirement. He then describes how an EMAP paired with pressure and flow feedback was used to press the valve seat while monitoring real‑time pressure, allowing the system to stop pressing exactly when the target opening pressure was reached. This approach reduced variation, improved capability, and combined pressing and testing into a single station. The example highlights how functional calibration can be applied to a wide range of assembly operations.
