Many operators at the 2007 Assembly Plant of the Year bleed blue. That is, they proudly sport the colors of the local hometown team: The University of Kentucky Wildcats. But, they’re not afraid to roll up their sleeves and bleed red once in a while, especially if it’s for a local blood drive or some other good cause.

The men and women who work at the Schneider Electric/Square D Lexington plant have been giving back to the community since the facility opened 50 years ago. By donating time and money to local charities, they help make Lexington a great place to live.

“The plant has remained here [in Lexington] due to great products built with quality and delivered to our customers at a competitive price, loyalty of our employees and customers, and a willingness to support our local community through charitable events,” says Bob Spence, plant manager.

The 2007 Assembly Plant of the Year has longstanding relationships with organizations such as the American Heart Association, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Habitat for Humanity and the United Way. For instance, the facility recently donated $25,000 to the local chapter of the American Heart Association.

The plant has also provided monetary support to several local community organizations, such as God’s Pantry, Hope Center and the Lexington Fraternal Order of Firefighters Toy Program.
