ALBUQUERQUE, NM--Sandia National Laboratories has licensed its micromachine design software to Microcosm Technologies Inc. (Cary, NC).

The software helps engineers design microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) and ensure that those designs are manufacturable.

MEMS are made from silicon in a process similar to that used for making microchips. MEMS can be used to make a fiber optic mirror array the size of a quarter or a drug dispensing system the size of a fingertip.
