In the complex world of providing semiconductor services, Viko Test Lab (Santa Clara, CA) prides itself in its ability to respond to the ever-changing needs of its customers. Whether the customer requires electrical testing, wafer sorting, burn-in, package qualification, topside marking, or taping and reeling, Viko tries to meet its customers' needs.

Viko Test Lab selected the U-1480 marking system from Markem Corp. (Keene, NH) to automatically print codes, logos and other information on semiconductor packages in trays. In addition, Viko has also recently purchased from Markem a fully automated system for marking singulated components. This unit incorporates the Model 590 pad printhead for small components.

The U-1480 can be configured with various options, including automatic tray loading and unloading, component pick-and-place, ultraviolet curing, flame treatment, and automated inspection of print quality and part orientation.

"Markem offered us a complete solution for the Viko Test Lab," states George Liu, vice president at Viko. "The U-1480 marking machine is a productive and flexible system that allows us to provide the customer with immediate results."

Viko's newly expanded marking and tape-and-reel departments are using two fully automated versions of the U-1480 system that offer high throughput rates. The U-1480 system also allows Viko to offer customers a wide range of package-marking services. "With the addition of the system, Viko Test Lab will be able to provide a one-stop shop for current and future customers for the processing of burn-in, final testing, marking, and taping and reeling," states Liu. "Viko is now in a position to better serve its customers."
