PHILADELPHIA—New machine technologies and precision maintenance techniques offer high productivity and long machine life. But results can fall short of expectations if the skills of operators and maintenance professionals do not advance at the same pace.

SKF’s Reliability Maintenance Institute (RMI) program offers training that covers the most basic to the most sophisticated maintenance and reliability practices. It also offers courses for management and executive-level professionals.

Courses offered through the RMI program cover every aspect of machine reliability and address the technical and managerial needs of everyone in the company. Course offerings are grouped into the following categories:

  • School of Bearing Maintenance and Reliability—These courses address every factor that impacts bearing service life from correct lubrication and mounting to bearing failure analysis and troubleshooting.
  • School of Proactive Reliability Maintenance Skills—These courses start with precision maintenance fundamentals. The courses then move on to recent advances in machine maintenance technologies and how these tools can enhance machine reliability. These courses are suitable for upper level management, plant managers and supervisors, and technicians.
  • School of Condition Monitoring—Maintenance technicians learn to use the right technology to detect problems before they result in major machine malfunction or breakdown. Participants also learn to perform root cause failure analysis to prevent future problems.
A number of programs are available that help plant management stay up to date on the latest maintenance practices and machinery improvement programs. These courses cover such topics as how to evaluate current plant maintenance and reliability practices, measure key benchmarks and determine the best course of action for realizing the greatest financial return on maintenance investments.

These courses are offered at various locations. The courses can also be held on-site at a customer location upon request. For those who want to learn from the comfort of their own location, the program offers virtual workshops, enabling individuals or groups of employees to access RMI experts and training via the Internet.
