TAEJON, South Korea-Engineers at the Humanoid Robot Research Center built a prototype HUBO-FX1, a “robotic chair” that is equipped with a pair of an capable of carrying a person or a load of more than 200 pounds.

In operation, the user operates the robot legs with a joystick while sitting in the chair. The system’s legs incorporate a battery of force, torque and position sensor. In all the HUBO-FX1 measures about 6 feet high and weighs about 300 pounds.

Researchers say they hope future models of the robotic chair will be capable of doing everything from help the elderly to move heavy loads in an industrial setting. DETAILS
