SEATTLE—Top-level talks might be the only way to end a seven-year state-aid dispute between aerospace manufacturers Boeing and Airbus, an EU diplomat said Wednesday after the WTO sent both sides its ruling on the issue. The decision, given confidentially, was made on a European Union appeal against U.S. government aid to Boeing.

SEATTLE—Boeing said replacing improperly installed shims on its new 787 Dreamliners will take 10 to 14 days per airplane and doesn’t indicate that the model needs a redesign.

PINELLAS PARK, FL—Lockheed Martin has opened a new assembly plant here to produce aircraft canopy components for the F-35 fighter.

 

EXETER, NH—Cobham Sensor Systems is adding 105,000 square feet to its assembly plant here, creating 120 new jobs.

SUPERIOR, MN—Kestrel is now hiring for positions at its new assembly plant here. The first 11 jobs are now posted on the company’s Web site. The company plans to hire 300 to 600 people over the next several years.

NEPHI, UT—Roger Boisjoly, the engineer who warned about a problem with the space shuttle Challenger’s solid rocket boosters before the disastrous launch in July 1985, died last month at age 73.

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC—Boeing’s new assembly plant here is getting much of its power from a 2.6-megawatt solar panel array on its roof. The largest rooftop solar installation in the Southeast, the array generates enough power for 250 homes.

WASHINGTON—GE plans to hire 5,000 veterans over the next five years and invest $580 million to expand its aviation business.
