LANCASTER, CA—Construction has begun on a solar energy project at BYD’s Coach & Bus assembly plant here. When fully operational, the project is expected to save the factory more than $100,000 per year in electricity costs.
FREMONT, CA—Tesla Inc. has temporarily suspended production of the Model 3 sedan at its assembly plant here in what the company said on Monday was a planned production pause. It was the second time since February that Tesla has temporarily shut down assembly of the Model 3.
LIVERMORE, CA—German automotive supplier Dräxlmaier Group will invest $24 million to set up its first U.S. assembly plant here. The factory will produce electrical systems and interior components.
CITY OF INDUSTRY, CA—The California Energy Commission awarded a $3 million grant to Proterra to develop and manufacture the next-generation of battery-powered buses here.
ALAMEDA, CA—Wrightspeed, a manufacturer of electric hybrid power trains for trucks, has relocated to a new assembly plant here. The factory is expected to employ more than 300 people by 2018.
HEMET, CA—Forest River Inc., a recreational vehicle manufacturer, has purchased an old factory here for a new assembly plant. The factory will begin production in early 2015 and is expected to employ 200 to 300 people at full production.
PALMDALE, CA—A Japanese company’s much-celebrated plans to build a light-rail manufacturing plant here appear all but dead after months of clashes with local labor unions and community groups. Kinkisharyo International said it is now looking at factory sites outside California.
