A Conversation on 3D Printing with the CEO of Meltio

In January 2023, Spanish multinational Meltio, a wire-laser metal 3D printing technology manufacturer, together with Phillips Corporation, a global manufacturing solutions leader based in the US, worked together to install a metal 3D printing solution to manufacture spare parts and repair tools on onboard US Navy ship, the USS Bataan.
PULLMAN, WA—Researchers and professors in the Washington State University School of Mechanical and Materials Engineering have developed a unique scaffold on their 3D printers that can be fine-tuned to grow natural replacement skin, cartilage or other tissue.
ROCK HILL, SC—3D Systems is involved in two projects for the Combat Capabilities Development Command (CCDC) Army Research Laboratory. The first is the creation of the world’s largest powder-metal 3D printer. The other focuses on topical optimization of additive manufacturing to improve the Army's 3D-printed products.
For the past year, the European Space Agency, in conjunction with London-based architectural firm Foster+Partners, has been performing tests to see if a Moon base can be 3D printed with local soil, rather than traditional thermoplastic. They call the soil "regolith."
