The future of the automotive industry involves autonomous, connected, zero-emission vehicles. 

WALTERBORO, SC—Pomega Energy Storage Technologies, a subsidiary of Kontrolmatik Technologies, will build its first U.S. assembly plant here. The $279 million project is expected to create 575 jobs.

In July 2022, Panasonic announced it would build a new lithium-ion battery plant in DeSoto, Kansas, a small town located right off a major highway. The plant is being built for the rapidly growing electric vehicle market. It's estimated the project will bring 4,000 permanent jobs to the state, and according to Kansas Department of Commerce officials, it is the most significant economic development project in state history. 

Battery manufacturers tend to be conservative in their efforts to maximize production processes and still maintain sustainable assembly costs.

JEFFERSONVILLE, OH—South Korean battery maker LG Energy Solution has entered into a partnership with Japanese carmaker Honda Motor to build a new battery factory here.

CHARLESTON, SC—Redwood Materials is spending $3.5 billion to build a new factory here to recycle batteries from electric vehicles (EVs).

WEIRTON, WV—Form Energy Inc., a start-up dedicated to developing long-lasting batteries for electric utilities, will build its first assembly plant here. The factory is expected to create at least 750 jobs and will represent a total investment of up to $760 million.

CLARKSVILLE, TN—LG Chem plans to build a $3.2 billion factory here to make components for electric vehicle batteries.

SEOUL—Hyundai Motor Co and SK On plan to invest about $1.88 billion to build a new joint venture battery factory in the United States.
