MARYSVILLE, OH—Honda will produce the new Acura NSX sports car at a new $70 million assembly plant adjacent to its existing facility here. The new factory is expected to employ approximately 100 people.
WASHINGTON—President Obama has issued a pair of executive orders that aim to help U.S. manufacturers. The first will create three manufacturing institutes using $200 million from the budgets of five agencies. The second requires that government data be made available to the public—and to entrepreneurs—in manageable formats that could be more easily used by researchers and businesses to jump-start new products and services.
URBANDALE, IA—Auto parts supplier Denso has opened a new assembly plant here. The facility makes cooling modules for agricultural and construction equipment.
DETROIT—The automotive industry ranked third in the United States in patent filings in 2012. Only the telecommunications and computer industries generated more patents last year.
DETROIT—GM is planning to invest approximately $16 billion in its U.S. factories by 2016. The automaker is planning to unveil about 20 new or revamped vehicles in the United States.
MONTGOMERY, AL—Hyundai plans to add a third shift at its assembly plant here. Hyundai will add 877 positions, bringing the total number of jobs at the plant to more than 3,000.
KANSAS CITY, MO—Ford will add more than 2,000 jobs at its assembly plant here to meet surging demand for the Ford F-150 and planned production of the new Ford Transit van.
BUFFALO, NY—The Western New York Economic Development Council has endorsed a plan to create a workforce training center here that will help teach local workers the skills needed in today’s more-advanced factory work.
