WASHINGTON—Since early 2010, U.S. manufacturers have created 489,000 jobs and are struggling to fill nearly a quarter million more. Their output last year topped $1.84 trillion, 8 percent higher than the pre-recession peak.
NEENAH, WI—Electronics manufacturing services provider Plexus Corp. will build a $50 million assembly plant here that will retain 1,000 jobs and add as many as 350 jobs.
AUBURN HILLS, MI—Brose North America Inc., a manufacturer of mechatronic components for automobiles, has purchased a 380,000-square-foot factory building in New Boston, MI. It will be the supplier’s third assembly plant in Michigan and its ninth in North America.
DECHERD, TN—Nissan and Daimler have begun constructing a new engine assembly plant here. The facility will be able to produce 250,000 units per year and is expected to employ 400.
WASHINGTON—A new report from the Brookings Metropolitan Policy Program shows that since the beginning of 2010, manufacturing employment has increased by 5.2 percent in the Midwest, while it has gone up by only 2.2 percent in the South.
CHATSWORTH, CA—Boulder Electric Vehicle has leased a 27,714-square-foot building here last month and has begun tooling it up to assemble electric vehicles. The company will initially hire 30 people and could employ 150 at full production.
FAIRFIELD, IL—Elastec-American Marine dedicated a new assembly plant here to make oil containment boom. The plant currently employs 30 full-time workers.
MARYVILLE, TN—DENSO will add 75 jobs at its assembly plant here to make a new automotive component that stops and starts the engine when the vehicle is at a stop or idling.
