LANSING, MI—General Motors plans to spend $1 billion in Michigan over the next 15 years while reaching a pact with the Snyder administration to cap the value of state business tax credits it receives. GM is the last of the Detroit 3 automakers to negotiate a limit on the Michigan Economic Growth Authority, or MEGA, credits first awarded in 2009 during former Gov. Jennifer Granholm’s administration.
DELTA TOWNSHIP, MI—General Motor’s holiday shutdown of its Lansing Delta Township Assembly plant will last a week longer because of retooling and new equipment installation.
BUENA VISTA TOWNSHIP, MI—A General Motors assembly plant in Flint, MI, could be the first to be affected by a parts shortage because of a strike at auto supplier Nexteer Automotive. More than 3,200 UAW members at Nexteer went on strike early Tuesday after the auto supplier rejected a new proposal from the union.
BEDFORD, IN—General Motors Co. will invest more than $127 million in its casting operation here and create approximately 127 jobs. GM says the expansion involves production of new aluminum engine blocks and components.
DETROIT—General Motors will sell a vehicle made in China in the United States next year, becoming the first major U.S. automaker to do so. The move was quickly denounced by the UAW, which branded it “a slap in the face” and called for an immediate rethink.
DETROIT—A majority of General Motors Co. hourly production workers have supported a tentative agreement with the UAW, but ratification has hit a snag. A majority of skilled trades voted against the contract, and that could potentially send the union and automaker back to the bargaining table.
WARREN, MI—General Motors is collaborating with DTE Energy to build a new 800-kilowatt solar array at its Warren Transmission plant here. The 2,800 solar panels will generate clean electricity that will go back to the grid.
DETROIT—The four-year labor agreement between the UAW and General Motors suffered a setback in early voting Saturday as workers at the Fairfax plant in Kansas City, KS, rejected it by a wide margin, but a strong majority of workers at one of two Lansing, MI, assembly plants approved it.
