MORAINE, OH—GM and Isuzu are looking to hire 150 new workers for their joint-venture DMAX engine assembly plant here to meet increased demand for diesel truck engines.
DETROIT—Working with robotics manufacturer FANUC, networking giant Cisco, and hardware maker Rockwell Automation, GM has installed a “mother brain” at its Lake Orion assembly plant. The system accepts data flowing to and from robots, conveyors, temperature sensors and other devices and sends that information to a cloud network. That enables plant managers and supplier technicians to monitor assembly technology and prevent mishaps.
INGERSOLL, ON—After beginning a hiring spree last November, the CAMI Automotive assembly plant is still in need of production associates and electricians.
TOKYO—Honda Motor Co. and General Motors Co. plan to set up a joint assembly plant to manufacture fuel cells. The goal is to reduce the market price of fuel-cell vehicles to levels that can compete with gas-electric hybrid vehicles.
LANSING, MI—General Motors is adding a third shift and will create more than 500 hourly and salaried jobs at its Grand River assembly plant here to meet expected demand for the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro.
LANSING, MI—General Motors plans to spend $1 billion in Michigan over the next 15 years while reaching a pact with the Snyder administration to cap the value of state business tax credits it receives. GM is the last of the Detroit 3 automakers to negotiate a limit on the Michigan Economic Growth Authority, or MEGA, credits first awarded in 2009 during former Gov. Jennifer Granholm’s administration.
DELTA TOWNSHIP, MI—General Motor’s holiday shutdown of its Lansing Delta Township Assembly plant will last a week longer because of retooling and new equipment installation.
