Trucks moved roughly 71 percent of the nation's freight by weight in 2016, according to the American Trucking Association. That's 10.55 billion tons of freight or $738.9 billion in gross freight revenue. To move all that stuff around, some 34 million trucks logged more than 450 billion miles.
BLUE SPRINGS, MO—Tier 1 supplier Faurecia will spend $60 million to build a new assembly plant here. The 250,000-square-foot factory will produce door and instrument panels and is expected to employ 300 people.
CHARLOTTE, NC—Three manufacturers plan to bring 639 jobs and almost $73 million in investment to the extended Charlotte area. Automotive supplier Tristone Flowtech USA Inc. is investing $23.6 million to build a new assembly plant in Iredell County, creating 302 jobs. Dhollandia Manufacturing, which makes hydraulic lifts, will spend $30 million to open a new assembly plant in Gaston County, creating 150 jobs. And, Sunrise Global Marketing, which makes battery-powered outdoor equipment, will hire 187 people and spend $23.2 million to open an assembly plant in Burke County.
HAMMOND, IN—Lear Corp. has begun construction on a new $30 million assembly plant here to make seats for SUVs. The factory is expected to employ 875 workers.
PORTLAND, TN—Automotive supplier U.S. Tsubaki Automotive will spend approximately $35.8 million over the next five years to expand its assembly plant here. The project is expected to create 70 new jobs.
FORT MILL, SC—Schaeffler Group USA Inc., a manufacturer of precision components for the industrial and automotive sectors, has opened its expanded assembly plant and new administrative building here. The project is expected to result in more than 100 jobs.
DETROIT—Automotive supplier Flex-N-Gate has begun construction of a new $95 million assembly plant here. The 350,000-square-foot facility is expected to open about a year from now.
