ANN ARBOR, MI—Toyota Motor Corp. will invest $126 million in its Ann Arbor Technical Center to expand powertrain operations and consolidate vehicle development operations at a new facility on its York Township campus.
WATERTOWN TOWNSHIP, MI—Automotive supplier Kirchhoff Van-Rob Inc. will add at least 125 jobs after it opens its new $25 million assembly plant here next month.
DELTA TOWNSHIP, MI—Magna International Inc. has opened a new 290,000-square-foot auto parts assembly plant here. The facility will employ approximately 340 people at full production.
DETROIT—Shinola Detroit LLC is opening a new watch dial factory here, allowing it to bring more manufacturing back to the city. Currently the luxury goods company, which is known for watches, bicycles and leather goods, purchases its dials from Taiwan-based BAT Ltd.
DETROIT—General Motors is planning to invest $200 million at two of its plants in Michigan to prepare for its future vehicle program. The automaker will allocate $160 million to its Orion assembly plant for tooling and equipment and $40 million to its Pontiac Metal Center for new dies.
MADISON HEIGHTS, MI—Auto parts supplier STEC USA Inc. will invest $15.1 million to open a new headquarters and assembly operation here in an existing building. The project is expected to create 176 jobs.
ZEELAND, MI—Office furniture maker Herman Miller is recruiting applicants for 50 job openings at its assembly plants in Zeeland and Holland, MI. Positions include manufacturing associate, machine operator, material handler and skilled trades.
DETROIT—Forty-one employers, including TRW Automotive Holdings Corp. and Magna International Inc., will be logging on to meet job-seekers Nov. 12 during a virtual career fair.
ZEELAND TOWNSHIP, MI—Like other employers, Primera Plastics struggles to find skilled workers. But the growing plastic molding company is taking a new approach to growing its workforce: It is giving unskilled workers on-the-job training and even providing a free bus ride to work.
DETROIT—Detroit Manufacturing Systems LLC plans to hire 200 assembly workers by January 2015 to support production growth of the Ford F-150 truck. The company will host two job fairs the next two Saturdays to fill those positions.
