MONTGOMERY, AL—Alabama gained 2,411 manufacturing jobs between April 2012 and April 2013, an increase of approximately 1 percent. The state is now home to 5,476 manufacturing companies employing 301,956 workers.
MONTGOMERY, AL—Hyundai plans to add a third shift at its assembly plant here. Hyundai will add 877 positions, bringing the total number of jobs at the plant to more than 3,000.
AUBURN, AL—GE Aviation has opened a $75 million assembly plant here. The 300,000-square-foot factory will produce parts for commercial and military jet engines. It will employ 50 initially and up to 400 workers by the end of the decade.
MOBILE, AL—Airbus will begin construction of its assembly plant here April 8. Aircraft production is set to begin in 2015 with the first aircraft delivery in 2016.
CHEROKEE, AL—FreightCar America Inc. has subleased approximately 25 percent of Navistar’s assembly plant here to build various types of railcars. FreightCar expects to invest $23 million to equip the facility, which will have the capacity to build more than 7,000 railcars per year.
MONTGOMERY, AL—Hyundai temporarily stopped its assembly line here to allow workers to watch the Alabama Crimson Tide battle for college football’s national championship.
