MACUNGIE, PA—The Mack Trucks assembly plant here is among the sites helping Volvo Group North America achieve its goal of reduced energy consumption under the U.S. Department of Energy’s Better Buildings Better Plants Challenge five years earlier than expected.
CANONSBURG, PA—Universal Electric Corp., a manufacturer of power distribution systems, will invest $11.5 million to construct an 81,000-square-foot addition to its assembly plant here. The company plans to add 58 new jobs over the next three years.
SMITHFIELD, PA—Boeing will expand its factory here, where the company makes complex electronic assemblies. Boeing expects to add 168 new jobs over the next three years, doubling the facility’s workforce.
LOWER MACUNGIE TOWNSHIP, PA—Mack Trucks Inc. has agreed to pay a $54,800 fine and properly manage hazardous waste at its assembly plant here in a settlement with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
FINDLAY TOWNSHIP, PA—GE will invest $32 million to build a new facility here to drive innovation and implementation of advanced manufacturing technologies across the company. The facility will initially employ 50.
PHILADELPHIA—The Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia reported healthy gains in manufacturing activity for the region in August. The bank’s index of general business activity increased from 23.9 in July to 28 in August, the fastest growth since March 2011.
BETHLEHEM, PA—Robert Bosch LLC and Bosch Rexroth Corp. have awarded four grants, totaling $100,000, to three Pennsylvania colleges to support science, technology, engineering and math education.
