CLEVELAND—Four North American assembly plants are among the six factories named as Industry Week magazine’s “Best Plants.” The six factories are Boston Scientific (Maple Grove, MN); Cessna Mexico (Chihuahua, Mexico); L.B. Foster Rail Technologies Corp. (Vancouver, BC); General Cable Corp. (Marion, IN); The Raymond Corp. (Greene, NY); and T&S Brass and Bronze Works (Travelers Rest, SC).
SUMNER, WA—GKN Aerospace will build a new assembly plant here, after winning a contract to build winglets for Boeing’s forthcoming 737 MAX. The facility will open in late 2015 and employ approximately 75 people at full production.
On Sept. 18, 2013, the unmanned Cygnus cargo spacecraft was launched into orbit for the first time. Shortly thereafter, it reached and docked with the International Space Station (ISS).
LAFAYETTE, IN—GE Aviation has started the initial hiring of employees for the $100 million jet engine assembly plant under construction here. The factory will employ more than 200 workers within five years.
ST. LOUIS—Boeing has commenced construction of a new 367,000-square-foot composites manufacturing facility, which will build parts for the new 777X. The facility is expected to employ 700.
CHICAGO—Zodiac Aerospace is struggling to meet demand for luxury seats for Boeing’s 787 Dreamliner, putting the aerospace giant at risk of missing its 2014 delivery target.
MOBILE, AL—Although hiring won’t take place until early 2015, Airbus has posted its latest batch of hourly positions for its A320 assembly plant under construction here.
