LOUISVILLE, KY—Both newcomers and veteran Ford workers alike are going through training on what the carmaker calls the most modern tools in the industry. Each employee will spend at least 40 hours in the training center.

HERMOSILLO, Mexico—Ford Motor Co. will invest an additional $1.3 billion in its stamping and assembly plant here. The investment will create 1,000 new jobs.

LIVONIA, MI—A123 Systems will spend $55 million to replace thousands of faulty battery packs for electric and hybrid vehicles.

PORTLAND, TN—Automotive supplier Kyowa America Corp. is building a new $12 million assembly plant here that will employ 160.

ARLINGTON, TX—No one was hurt Saturday afternoon after a two-alarm fire broke out at GM’s assembly plant here. The fire started in the body shop shortly after noon as a maintenance team was working on an air conditioning unit.
