German Auto Parts Maker Plans Expansion, 120 New Hires

February 13, 2018

FORT WAYNE, IN--ElringKlinger is planning a $23 million expansion of its factory here. The company makes automotive cylinder and head gaskets, as well as components for lithium-ion batteries and fuel cells. It plans to add $20.6 million in manufacturing, logistics and information technology equipment, resulting in the creation of 120 new jobs.

Nikola Motor Picks Phoenix Suburb for Electric-Truck Manufacturing Plant

February 2, 2018

BUCKEYE, AZ--Nikola Motor Co. announced last week that it will build a new plant in this Phoenix suburb to manufacture hydrogen fuel cell-powered trucks. Salt Lake City-based Nikola chose the site from among 30 locations in nine states considered during a 12-month site-selection process for the zero-emission facility.The project is said to provide 2,000 new jobs and more than $1 billion in capital investment by 2024.

GE Transportation Unveils New Approach to Building Locomotives

February 2, 2018

CONTAGEM, Brazil--GE Transportation’s plant here unveiled this week a new approach to manufacturing locomotives with a mixed-model moving assembly line. Unlike traditional stationary production lines, the mixed-model moving line is designed to assemble different locomotive configurations as the units slowly move down the track. The assembly line cuts lead time by approximately 20 percent, reduces inventory by $1.75 million and creates 1,256 square meters of space savings within the factory.

Lockheed Proposes Making Custom-Built Fighter Jets in India

January 23, 2018

WASHINGTON--Lockheed Martin has proposed to relocate production of the F-16 from Forth Worth, TX, to India if the country decides to buy a large number of jets. Indian defense contractor Tata Advanced Systems Ltd. would perform final assembly of the aircraft.

RED OAK, IA--H&H Trailers, a division of Novae Corp., is expanding its manufacturing operations to a facility here. Company officials say the expansion will add 50,000 square feet of production space to the company's current Iowa manufacturing footprint.

Maverick Boat Breaks Ground on New Facility

January 23, 2018

FORT PIERCE, FL--Maverick Boat Group broke ground here last week on a new, state-of-the-art 106,000 square-foot facility where its Cobia line of boats will be built. The company will add more than 100 new jobs and already employs 287 local workers.

BUFFALO, NY--Tesla Inc. has kicked off production of its long-awaited electricity-producing shingles that Elon Musk says will transform the rooftop solar industry. Manufacturing of the photovoltaic glass tiles began last month at a factory here built with backing from New York State, the company said in an email Tuesday.

First BelugaXL Rolls Out of Factory in France

January 9, 2018

TOULOUSE, France--The first structurally complete airframe for the new Airbus BelugaXL has rolled out from its assembly hangar here, the manufacturer said Tuesday. Based on an A330-200F airframe, the planned fleet of five BelugaXLs will provide 30 percent more transport capacity than the Beluga-600XTs they will replace.
