GM to Boost Production at Texas Plant

January 27, 2009
General Motors plans to slightly boost production at its Arlington truck-assembly plant beginning in March even as it cuts production and jobs at other plants. The Arlington plant, which builds full-size sport utility vehicles, will boost production by about two dozen vehicles a day beginning March 9 while continuing to work two eight-hour shifts each day. Manufacturer of Hybrid Buses Looks to California for New Assembly Plant

SAN JOSE, CA-A manufacturer of hybrid buses wants to open an assembly plant here. Proterra LLC plans to unveil a prototype bus, developed through a public-private partnership, at an event tentatively set for Feb. 6 at San Jose City Hall. The vehicle-with a lightweight body, lithium titanate battery packs and a solar roof array-could save approximately 11 million gallons or $45 million, in fuel annually for large-scale users. MORE

Cat Breaks Ground on Texas Assembly Plant

Caterpillar Inc. broke ground Wednesday on the company’s new manufacturing plant just east of San Antonio. Last month, Cat selected Seguin as the site for its new engine assembly, test and paint facilities. The construction-equipment manufacturer is consolidating operations from plants in Illinois and South Carolina to Seguin and in the process is creating more than 1,400 jobs. MORE
