TUCSON, AZ—American Battery Factory (ABF), a manufacturer of lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries, has selected Lead Intelligent Equipment to supply custom automation equipment for its upcoming gigafactory here.
WASHINGTON—The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) is partnering with the U.S. Department of the Treasury and the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to provide $10 billion in funding through the Qualifying Advanced Energy Project Credit (48C). The notice released June 5 allocates up to $4 billion to accelerate domestic clean energy manufacturing and ensure no community is left behind in the transition to clean energy technologies.
WEIRTON, WV—Form Energy Inc., a start-up dedicated to developing long-lasting batteries for electric utilities, will build its first assembly plant here. The factory is expected to create at least 750 jobs and will represent a total investment of up to $760 million.
OTTAWA, OH—Whirlpool Corp. began construction on a $3.3-million wind-turbine project at its freezer assembly plant here. The project will generate more than 30 percent of the plant’s power needs.
WARREN, MI—General Motors is collaborating with DTE Energy to build a new 800-kilowatt solar array at its Warren Transmission plant here. The 2,800 solar panels will generate clean electricity that will go back to the grid.
PRETORIA, South Africa—BMW’s assembly plant here is getting some of its power from cow manure. The company has agreed to a 10-year deal to buy as much as 4.4 megawatts of electricity from a biogas power station about 80 kilometers from the assembly plant. Surrounded by land where approximately 30,000 cattle graze, the power station runs off gas emitted by a fetid mixture of dung and organic waste.
RUSSELLS POINT, OH—Just six months after installing two wind turbines at its assembly plant here, Honda Transmission Manufacturing of America Inc. has reported that the machines are producing more electrical power than was anticipated. The turbines have exceeded the projected power output figures by 6.3 percent.
OXFORD, UK—BMW has installed 11,500 solar panels on the roof its Mini assembly plant here. The panels will generate enough electricity to power 850 UK households.
