STUTTGART, Germany—One of the most famous brands in the automotive industry, Mercedes-Benz, is celebrating its 100th birthday this year. In 1926, the companies founded by Carl Benz and Gottlieb Daimler merged to form Daimler-Benz AG.
At that year’s Berlin and Geneva auto shows, the new company debuted cars and trucks bearing a logo that featured the three-pointed Mercedes star of Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft encircled in the laurel wreath of Benz & Cie.
The new company quickly established a reputation for technical excellence, quality, reliability and a culture of innovation. This year, it is celebrating the 140th anniversary of Benz’s patent application for a three-wheeled, gas-powered vehicle. In 1886, Daimler also constructed his first four-wheeled motor carriage.
