Daimler-Volvo Joint Venture Advances Software-Defined Truck Platform

GOTHENBURG, Sweden — Coretura, the software-defined vehicle platform company founded by Daimler Truck and Volvo Group, has signed an engineering agreement with Accenture to accelerate development of a software platform for trucks, buses and other medium- and heavy-duty commercial vehicles. The collaboration supports Coretura’s roadmap to deliver its first commercialized products toward the end of the decade.
Coretura is developing a common software foundation for commercial vehicles, including trucks and buses that may remain in operation for more than 15 years. The company said the platform is intended to give vehicle manufacturers a reusable software stack that can support updates, new features and performance improvements over time.
Accenture will support development, integration, testing, documentation and compliance for the platform. Coretura will retain ownership of the architecture and strategic direction.
“Our purpose is to advance mobility at the speed of ideas, and that takes depth,” said Johan Lundén, CEO of Coretura. “Building a full-stack SDV platform demands expertise across embedded software, middleware, cybersecurity and functional safety, all designed for vehicles with lifecycles measured in decades.”
The companies said the collaboration will focus on areas including electrical and electronic architecture, software abstraction, embedded software engineering, API management and AI-based engineering optimization.
Software-defined vehicle platforms are intended to reduce reliance on separate electronic control units and shift more vehicle functions to centralized software systems. For commercial vehicle manufacturers, that could help lower development costs, shorten time to market and support over-the-air updates throughout a vehicle’s service life.
