New Standard Covers Hazards of Robotic Welding Cells

MIAMI--The American Welding Society (AWS) has published a new standard for identifying and preventing hazards associated with arc welding robots.

The Risk Assessment Guide for Robotic Arc Welding defines the terms describing the process and dangers of robotic welding. Included in the text are guidelines for risk assessment, robot classification, and a summary of potential hazards. Annexes list mandatory operating information, application classifications, and safeguarding protocols.

The standard has been approved by the American National Standards Institute. The 21-page document costs $24 for AWS members and $32 for nonmembers. To order a copy, call 800-443-9353 or visit www.aws.org.
