BOSTON—Nearly one in four exports from Massachusetts is a medical device, making the state No. 1 in the nation in share of exports of medical devices as a percentage of total exports, ahead of California, Illinois, Minnesota and Florida, according to a report by the Massachusetts Medical Device Industry Council. This is the fourth year in a row that Massachusetts ranks first for total medical device exports by percentage (23 percent) of total state exports with a value of $6.13 billion.
The report was conducted by Grant Thornton LLP, and was recently presented to industry professionals at the MassMEDIC MedTech Town Hall in conjunction with BIOMEDevice Boston at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center. According to the report, Massachusetts ranks highest in wages for medtech, as compared to California, Minnesota, Florida and Texas. In 2018,the average Massachusetts medtech wage was $121,909.
The Massachusetts Medical Device Industry Council is an organization of more than 300 manufacturers, suppliers, research institutions and academic health centers. It offers medical device manufacturers a variety of programs, informational seminars, advocacy campaigns and other projects regarding industry trends and regulatory policies.
