NORTH CHARLESTON, SC—SHL Medical is investing $90 million to build a new assembly plant here to make autoinjector products. The 270,000-square-foot facility is expected to create some 165 jobs. Operations are expected to launch by 2024.

The vertically integrated factory will include injection molding and fully automated assembly capabilities. The factory will also have a flexible supply chain.

The factory will be the company’s second new factory in the next few years. The company is also building a new assembly plant in Switzerland.

“Demand for SHL’s products has increased significantly,” says Ulrich Faessler, the company’s chairman and CEO. “Therefore, we are speeding up our plans for a new plant in the US. Similar to our upcoming European site in Zug, Switzerland, the U.S. site will be a state-of-the-art, fully automated site. This expansion signifies SHL’s pledge to our advanced manufacturing strategy that will support our sustainability goals; and, at the same time, mitigate supply chain disturbances by manufacturing closer to our customers.”
