FANUC Unveils First Explosion-Proof Paint Cobot

Cobot will enable high-mix operations to automate finishing operations.

FANUC cobot for painting
May 21, 2024

FARMINGTON HILLS, MI—FANUC America has introduced the world’s first explosion-proof collaborative robot for painting and finishing applications.

The CRX-10iA/L Paint cobot is the first of its kind to be designed specifically for industrial painting, coating and powder applications.

FANUC’s expansion into the paint and coating sector represents a milestone for the company, which has a long history of developing and manufacturing industrial robots. The CRX-10iA/L Paint cobot is geared towards high-mix, low-volume operations. In addition to its standard capabilities of FANUC cobots, the CRX-10iA/L Paint cobot complies with a range of stringent safety standards, particularly those related to explosion-proof operations.

“Now with the new CRX-10iA/L Paint collaborative robot, more operations will be able to reap the benefits of paint and coating automation,” says Ed Minch, sales director for automotive component and general industry painting at FANUC America. “We know our customers are struggling to increase their production and efficiency to keep up with rising demand while staying profitable. Cobots that paint will be a game-changer for companies that might have very little or no prior experience with robots to help them cost effectively automate within a short period of time.”

FANUC’s CRX cobots are designed to be lightweight, flexible and easy to use, making them well-suited for a wide range of applications. the CRX-10iA/L Paint cobot can carry a payload of 10 kilograms and has a reach of 1,418 millimeters.

Like the rest of the CRX series, the new paint cobot will be equipped with a range of safety features, including advanced sensors and collaborative operation modes. The CRX-10iA/L will also be designed to meet global safety standards for explosion-proof operation, including IECEx certification.
