SAN ANTONIO—JCB will double the size of a new assembly plant currently under construction here.
The British tractor manufacturer has 22 manufacturing factories globally, including 11 in the U.K., seven in India, and others in Brazil, China and North America. In North America, JCB has two factories: one in Savannah, GA, and a new one being built in San Antonio.
“In the short term, the imposition of tariffs will have a significant impact on our business,” says Graeme Macdonald, JCB’s CEO. “However, in the medium term, our planned factory in San Antonio will help to mitigate the impact.”
JCB has been manufacturing in the U.S. for 50 years, and last year bought 400 acres of land in San Antonio after recognizing the need to produce more machines in North America. The original plan for a 500,000-square-foot factory in San Antonio has now been revised and JCB is forging ahead with plans to double its size to 1 million square feet. The new $500 million plant is due to start production next year and employ up to 1,500 people.Looking for quick answers on assembly and manufacturing topics?
