BMW Spartanburg Celebrates 7 Millionth Vehicle Assembled in the U.S.

SPARTANBURG, SC—BMW Manufacturing has reached a historic production milestone with the completion of its seven millionth vehicle at its Spartanburg, South Carolina plant. The landmark car is a BMW ALPINA XB7, finished in ALPINA Green Metallic and equipped with a powerful 631-horsepower Bi-Turbo V8 engine. This special model, featuring bespoke ALPINA design elements and luxury finishes, will be preserved as part of BMW’s historic collection.
“This milestone represents decades of dedication, innovation, and investment in South Carolina,” said Dr. Robert Engelhorn, president and CEO of BMW Manufacturing. “As we look to the future, we’re excited to begin producing fully electric vehicles at this facility.”
BMW’s Spartanburg plant produced nearly 400,000 vehicles in 2024, exporting over half to 120 global markets. The facility remains the largest BMW Group plant in the world, producing more than 1,500 vehicles daily and employing over 11,000 people.

- 1 Millionth BMW – February 28, 2006 – Z4 M Roadster
- 2 Millionth BMW – January 12, 2012 – BMW X3 xDrive35i
- 3 Millionth BMW – March 24, 2015 – BMW X5 M
- 4 Millionth BMW – September 8, 2017 – BMW X3 xDrive M40i
- 5 Millionth BMW – June 4, 2020 – BMW X5 M Competition
- 6 Millionth BMW – September 2, 2022 – BMW X6 M
- 7 Millionth BMW – April 30, 2025 – BMW ALPINA XB7
BMW continues to invest heavily in U.S. operations, with $1.7 billion allocated for electric vehicle production—including $1 billion for Plant Spartanburg upgrades and $700 million for a new battery assembly plant in Woodruff, SC. By 2030, the Spartanburg site will produce at least six fully electric models.
