KARNATAKA, India—Tata Advanced Systems Ltd (TASL) and Airbus are setting up the country’s first privately-led helicopter manufacturing facility in Karnataka’s Kolar district. The plant will produce the Airbus H125 civil helicopter, with an initial capacity of 10 units per year, and plans to scale up based on projected regional demand of 500 helicopters over the next two decades.
This facility, located in the Vemgal Industrial Area, will be only the fourth of its kind worldwide—after France, the U.S., and Brazil—and marks a significant boost to the “Make in India” initiative. Karnataka secured the project over Andhra Pradesh due to its robust aerospace ecosystem and strong state incentives, including land subsidies and fast-track clearances.
TASL has acquired 740,000 sq ft for helicopter assembly and MRO (maintenance, repair, and overhaul) operations. This initiative runs parallel to Tata-Airbus’s ongoing C295 aircraft assembly project in Vadodara, Gujarat, further cementing India’s growing role in global aerospace manufacturing.
