LOUISVILLE, KY—Taiwanese electronics giant Foxconn is exploring the launch of a $174 million manufacturing plant in Louisville, according to state records. The company recently received preliminary approval for a state incentive package from the Kentucky Economic Development Finance Authority.
If the deal moves forward, Foxconn would lease a site in Jefferson County and employ 180 workers, with wages averaging $38.61 per hour, including benefits. The proposed incentives include $3.4 million in tax credits and $600,000 in sales tax rebates over a decade.
Kentucky's economic development secretary, Jeff Noel, called the approval “an extraordinary first step,” adding that Governor Andy Beshear played a key role in advancing discussions. Site selection and due diligence are ongoing.
Foxconn, which has facilities in 24 countries and is the world’s largest electronics contract manufacturer, produces devices for companies like Apple, Amazon, and Microsoft. However, its credibility was questioned after a heavily publicized $10 billion plant in Wisconsin failed to materialize despite billions in subsidies.
