Chinese startup Mirror Me's four-legged robot, Black Panther II, recently outperformed Boston Dynamics’ WildCat. During a live broadcast on China Central Television, the robot ran 100 meters in just 13.17 seconds, reaching a top speed of 9.7 meters per second. For comparison, Boston Dynamics’ WildCat has a recorded top speed of 8.8 m/s, according to a 2020 study.
Founded in May 2024 in Shanghai by Zhejiang University faculty and graduates, Mirror Me is part of China's growing push to lead the robotics sector. The company’s co-founder Jin Yongbin, a researcher at Zhejiang University, noted that earlier trials saw the Black Panther II reach 10.9 m/s.
Although the Guinness World Record for the 100-meter robot race still belongs to Korea’s Hound robot (19.87 seconds in 2023), Mirror Me plans to apply for the record in due time, currently prioritizing R&D.
The startup is also backed by Hongrun Construction Group and is developing a bipedal robot capable of 10 m/s by 2026, as well as a humanoid personal assistant by 2030. Its broader portfolio includes robotic arms and hands.
As China accelerates its robotics ambitions, Mirror Me joins peers like Unitree Robotics in pushing the boundaries of speed, agility, and real-world applications for next-gen robots.
