Nissan Delays Launch of Two EVs Amid Declining Demand

CANTON, MS—According to a report by Automotive News, Nissan is delaying the production of two electric crossovers at its Canton, Mississippi, plant by 10 months due to slowing EV demand in the U.S. This delay pushes the Nissan-branded EV (PZ1K) to November 2028 and the Infiniti version (PZ1J) to March 2029. This follows recent legislation ending federal EV tax credits after September 2025, which is impacting consumer interest and automaker strategies.
Originally planned for 2025, the EVs have faced repeated delays and shifting plans, with Nissan dropping previously proposed electric sedans due to declining sedan sales. The Canton facility currently builds gasoline models but is still slated to produce several next-gen EVs eventually. Despite the delays, Nissan plans to launch a redesigned Leaf later this year and introduce its e-Power hybrid system in the Rogue. Infiniti, however, continues to struggle with a lack of fresh product amid falling sales.
