TOYOTA CITY, Japan— Toyota Motor Corporation announced it will acquire land in the Teihoucho area of Toyota City, Aichi Prefecture, to build its first new vehicle manufacturing plant in Japan since 2012. Operations are scheduled to begin in the early 2030s, though the specific production models have not yet been decided.
The project will be developed with the aim of creating a “plant of the future” that leverages cutting-edge technology and fosters an inclusive, diverse workforce.
The move comes despite declining domestic car sales driven by Japan’s shrinking population and lower ownership rates. Toyota maintains a domestic production capacity of 3 million vehicles annually, with roughly half bound for overseas markets.
Toyota reaffirmed its commitment to being the “best company in town” in every country and region where it operates.
